The easiest way to start off when practicing guided relaxation is to count your breaths as you inhale and exhale.  Deep breathing relaxation methods, which involve inhaling through your nose as deeply as you can, will help your body start to relax.  Hold this breath and then let it out slowly through your nose. Your heart rate will start to slow down and your muscles will start to relax.  When learning relaxation meditation, remember to have a focus for the meditation.  It requires work to focus your mind on one point and you must be engaged in all aspects of meditating.  During relaxation meditation, all kinds of thoughts will come to mind. You have to learn how to recognize these thoughts and then dismiss them so that you are still actively involved in the guided relaxation.  This is one of the main reasons why you need to choose a quiet place for meditation where you will not be interrupted by the normal sounds of your life when you are teaching yourself how to relax in this manner.  Meditation for beginners will be frustrating when you can’t seem to get it right the first time.  The key is to stay focused on meditating and to focus on your breathing techniques.

The thoughts of frustration are ones that can take over and ruin relaxation methods for you.  One great practice in meditation for beginners learning how to relax is to concentrate on the parts of the body.  Start with your toes and focus on them as you feel them relax.  Then move upward concentrating for a few minutes on each body part and how it relaxes.  As you get to your head, your body will be completely relaxed and then you can concentrate on having a blank mind.

I love Yoga.  If you are dealing with stress in anyway, you should consider going to a beginners Yoga class.  The release from stress and tension that Yoga provides is really unmatched by anything else.  The stretching and breathing allows your body to open up and let go of the tensions you’re holding on to.  Yoga takes your body to new levels of relaxation.  You may think you’re relaxing when you are kicking back, watching television, or having a drink after work.  Yeah, you may feel relaxed, but that level of relaxation is only the surface.  You’re just numbing your stress, not relieving it.  Yoga relieves stress.  Yoga teaches you what your body feels like when you are truly relaxed.  The practice of Yoga  finds your stress and releases it from your body.  It’s amazing.

You don’t have to be master to feel the benefits of Yoga.  You don’t have to wait to feel relief from stress.  The feeling is immediate.  If you think Yoga is weird or something you would never do.  I am pleading with you to reconsider.

I am not a Yoga expert and I don’t want to be.  I just enjoy going through the class and allowing the instructor to take me through the experience – and it is an experience.  After your first class, you will know exactly what I’m talking about.

Learning how to relax your mind and body is key to stress relief.  You may not always be able to avoid stressful scenarios, but if you utilize stress management techniques that can rid your body of anxiety, stress and tension, you will be able to reduce the negative impact stress can have on your health.

Tranquility is Yours

Some days are stressful.  It’s interesting how it can start with just one stressful situation and snowball from there.  Say the traffic is bad, or the metro is crowded, or the bus makes you late for work.  Whatever it is, that stress builds.  You have this low level of stressful irritation, and then another layer is added.  Someone at work really gets on your nerves, or a project isn’t going smoothly.  Now you’ve got a second layer of stress on top of the first layer.  Your stress is steadily rising.  By the end of the day, you could be really stressed-out.  Just sick or everything, and sometimes everybody.

Now is the time to utilize stress relief techniques.  Don’t carry that stress through your evening, or through your interactions with loved ones.  It’s very easy to carry it through, but make sure you don’t.

I use the stress relief techniques at Tranquility is Yours all the time.  My days are very stressful.  People get on my nerves.  Transportation is irritating.  I use aromatherapy to help me release the stresses of the day. I have lavender scents in several rooms to help me relax and let go. Lavender is a wonderful stress relieving scent.  I use candles and table top water fountains to make my room relaxing and serene.  And I do the relaxation exercises on this page, especially the last exercise to release the stress knots that build in my neck and shoulders after being on the computer all day.

Find your inner peace.  Make a conscience effort to get the stress of the day out of your way once you get home.  Don’t store it.  Don’t keep it. Don’t share it.  Don’t let stress rob you of the joy you should be experiencing in life.  If you don’t manage your stress, stress will manage you.  Which do you prefer?  Take charge, and get the stress out of your life.
